Take A Stand
For four years now, the Girl Scout Council of the Congaree Area, Inc. has demonstrated a vested interest in issues that concern women and children in South Carolina communities. Beginning in 2002, the Congaree Council selected domestic violence as a platform to support the first-ever Council Wide Service Project. The 2004 project, Passport to Fitness, was successful in making an impact on childhood obesity. Again this year, the girls took a leading role in selecting the topic for the 2005 Council Wide Service Project.

Using the Kepner-Tregoe Decision Analysis process, the girls selected school bullying as this year's platform. "Take A Stand," the title of the 2005 service project, is geared toward helping girls learn how to prevent school bullying. Girls will be asked to learn about school bullying and then complete service projects in their communities. We'll conclude the year long focus with a celebration at the Take A Stand Gala on March 5, 2005 at the Columbia Museum of Art. Throughout the duration of this project, it is our hope that girls take this opportunity to share the importance of creating an environment where everyone feels safe.
